Double Trouble

Today I read that a few libraries in Mississippi have banned America: The Book. I'm sure that there are other libraries that have done the same without all the press attention. This follows on the heels of Walmart choosing not to carry the book. All of this is fueled by the picture of the Supreme Court Justices' faces superimposed on nude figures.

I guess that photos have more power than words, because I would assume that these eight libraries contain books with more graphic descriptions of nudity, sex, or other topics that evoke images of nudity to the reader.

It's unfortunate that these libraries could not do something like put the book on reserve, possibly cover (not mutilate) the image, or come up with some other way to keep the image away from children. The entirety of the book is too enjoyable, and informative, for a library to not carry it.

Also, this story is part of the reason I curse myself for not being better with science. By better I mean having even a simple understanding.

Scientists say they have uncovered an important clue to understanding the origins of the Aids epidemic.

They have pinpointed crucial differences in a gene found in rhesus monkeys that can prevent HIV infection, and its human counterpart, that cannot.

Bravo!
