Stupid Business Decisions

Whoever decided to make parts of the New York Times online only available to those who pay for premium access is an idiot. Example 1:

Eliot Pierce, who oversees the TimesSelect project at the Times' Web site, said the paper is hoping to sign up enough users and home delivery subscribers to the new program so that the Op-Ed columnists "remain part of the dialogue."

Right...

If I was one of the columnists that is now only on premium content, I would be livid. Their exposure as columnists is going to drop, they will lose money on their future book sales, and they will fall out of the "dialogue."

Good riddance.
