This is the press release that was emailed to me.
The evening law student who allegedly made the threat has been located by authorities in another city and has been questioned. No charges have been filed but the investigation by the city Police Department remains open.
As has been reported by media, a student in the Law School Evening Program reported to city Police that a fellow law student had made a threat to harm members of the Law School community at class the evening of January 10. With the safety of the Law School community uppermost in their minds, Law School officials cancelled classes that evening as a precaution. Classes resumed January 11.
[The university] is cooperating fully with city Police in their investigation. In addition, the University is continuing its enhanced security measures with increased numbers of officers on 24-hour patrols of the Law Quad and the campus.
On January 12 [the university] received the sad news from the city Police Department that the student who reported the threat has been hospitalized after “taking an unknown amount of alcohol and medications,” according to the city Police Department’s Incident Report. We at [the university] extend our thoughts and prayers for his full recovery.
Obviously, this is a troubling situation for the Law School and University community, as well as the families of the law students involved. Professional counselors are available to University students at the [university] Counseling Center by calling [removed]. In addition, the [university] Office of the Chaplain can be reached at [removed].
As always, members of the University community are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to Police at [removed] or 911 in an emergency.
How I didn't hear everyone gossiping about it, notice the police patrolling, take note of the camera crews set up in the quad, or figure out that someone was drinking copious amounts of alcohol without me is beyond me.
