Not giving a shot

Alex Abramovich has a very good review of various brands of vodka at Slate. As a huge fan of vodka, I've tried out many different brands and have my own opinions on which are the best. Right now I have two brands of vodka: one in my freezer to be used in martinis or on the rocks. The other would be used in mixes and white russians.

My favorite vodka for mixing is Monopolowa. It isn't all that great on it's own, but it is good. It is also a fairly cheap vodka.

My favorite vodka for drinking is either Chopin (Abramovich liked this nice potato vodka too) or Ketel One. I buy whichever one is on sale when I go by the store.

There are other vodkas that I've found to be decent. I liked Belvedere well enough, but I like Chopin more. Grey Goose really wasn't all that good, in my opinion. Actually, I gave away the bottle of Grey Goose after I had a few drinks. It just wasn't working for me. Skyy was terrible. Then there is some Irish vodka that I had over in Ireland that was alright.

There is my review of what vodkas are good. Monopolowa is really a pretty good mixing vodka -- try it out. Remember, "Never mix, never worry" if you want to avoid hangovers. That ruins my taste for white russians.
