Death Penalty Update

The Supreme Court has decided to hear the Kansas Death Penalty case, in which the Kansas Supreme Court declared the Kansas death penalty scheme unconstitional.

While the Kansas death penalty scheme is in a moratorium currently, the North Carolina House postpones voting on a ban on executions until later this year. However, most policy makers in North Carolina agree that their death penalty scheme needs adjustments to achieve systematic fairness.

In Alabama the fight over the death penalty is starting to heat up. The Southern Poverty Center and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference are both opposing the death penalty. All of this is in the shadow of the execution of Jerry Paul Henderson who will probably be executed today.

Iraq is happy to see the return of the legal death penalty.
