Google has up their typical April Fools type thing with the "Google Gulp" drink page. However, they also have "New Features" on their list of gmail things. In it they say they are bumping the space to 2 Gigs.
My space currently says "You are currently using 19 MB (1%) of your 1352 MB." Are they serious about this or kidding?

It's real. They're adding space incrementally. If you refresh every few minutes you'll see the space increase. Probably by the end of the day everyone will have their 2GB.
