What will likely win a lot is the hysterically over-praised Sideways, which played to blue-state art-house nihilism. Anyone that considers NPR news will find Sideways a great comedy. And the film has only made about $25 million to date proving its mediocrity.
Mocking NPR in the midst of a movie review? Are you fucking serious? Oh, wait, nevermind an independent film release only earned $25 million. Just like Wonderfalls only had 6 million viewers.
Ok, ok, let me try this version of critiquing films. Alright, so the review is going to say that Sideways is a bad film. Here goes: "In this performance Giamatti is lifeless and insular. His performance reminded me of watching Fox News as though you were trying to learn something. You'll just wind up frustrated."
How was that for an attempt? Seriously, an educated lawyer/law professor cites this shit as authority. Is he out of his mind?
Personally, I didn't think that Sideways was the best of 2004. But the performance by Paul Giamatti is one of his better performances. Perhaps not up with Storytelling, but he does a good job. Furthermore, it's no where near one of the worst movies of 2004.
It's odd that in one sentence Bainbridge seems to criticize the popular opinion of people who think Sideways is a wonderful movie. Then in the next breath he jumps on the bandwagon of calling Hollywood liberal.
I'm wondering what he is trying to prove with the post besides his lack of any objective discretion.
