Sausage Assault?

A 12 year old boy has been charged with assault for throwing a sausage at and hitting a 74 year old man. Is this an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; to wit: cocktail sausage or is just an assault?

Too bad it wasn't a peanut. Because then, you know:

"Two peanuts were walking down a road...

...one was assaulted"

It just really couldn't be helped.
