Yahoo! Finance has an article that lists what everyone should do to get their finances straight. I agree the most with keeping no credit card debt, living on less than you earn, and setting up a system where at least 10% of your income is put into savings before you even have it in your hands.

I did some math and agree with you: better to put your money in the Roth first instead of the 401k (if only to lock in today's low tax rate).
