It seems that this has been a very bad week for loggerhead turtles. An endangered species that resides off the Atlantic coast of the United States and other areas is known for their size and beauty has been afflicted by an unknown ailment. About ten of the loggerheads washed up on the shore in Jacksonville this week.
The reptiles are lethargic, not eating and not moving even a flipper. The turtles are very sick, but with what?
It's unclear what has made them sick.
Then a 122 pound loggerhead was injured in a stingray attack. Researchers at the University of Florida are helping to make sure that loggerhead makes it back into the ocean soon.
