From ESPN.com we learn that "Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Boggs was named on 474 ballots, while Sandberg got 393 votes, just six more than the cut."
This was Boggs' first attempt, and he made it through without a hitch, whereas Sandberg was trying his third time. Sandberg got 76% of the votes which is 1% higher than the cutoff. Both players deserve to be in the hall of fame.
There were a few players who missed the cut today.
Bruce Sutter, Jim Rice, Rich Gossage, Andre Dawson, Willie McGee, and Darryl Strawberry all missed the cut. Of course, there were many others who weren't even close, but these are some of the bigger names. Out of those, I think that Sutter and Gossage both deserve to be in the hall of fame. Neither of them will ever make it though. Jack Morris deserves to be in the hall of fame too.
At least Boggs made it so easily. He really did deserve to make it without much of a fight. My question: which hat will he wear?
