The American Museum of the Moving Image has an exhibit, The Living Room Candidate that features the political ad campaigns of every President since 1952. This will only be up for a couple more weeks, so I encourage you to check them out.
You are able to find all sorts of fun things including many images of politicians standing with hard helmets on their head, Jackie Kennedy attempting to speak Spanish, and some lady singing about how she'd rather have a candidate with holes in his shoes than holes in what he says.
I think if anything is shown by this exhibit, it is simply that political ad campaigns are usually cheesy, laughable, and overall not engaging.
